New Headway Intermediate (perus) - eleventh meeting

Today was our last meeting. We discussed talkativeness among other things. It has been nice teaching and learning with you. Thank you all.

A new intermediate course (keskitason peruskurssi) starts in September.  
Enrolling for language courses starts again on 20 August :)

New Headway Intermediate (peruskurssi) - ninth meeting

Today we discussed passions. We also listened to five people telling about their passions in life. Homework: read the text about Calvin Klein - a passion for fashion on page 56 and do exercise 5 on page 57.

Today among other things we discussed literature and listened to Miss Marple actress Julie McKenzie talking about her role. Homework: do the grammar handout (perfekti). Like we discussed last time, all the ideas and comments on future courses are more than welcome. What kind of things would you like to do in an intermediate course; topics, tasks, course books, anything.

New Headway Intermediate (Järvenpää) - seventh meeting

Our new topic today was literature. We discussed books and listened to an interview with Cathy Kelly.  We also learnt some details about JK Rowling. Homework: do the handout about Cathy Kelly.

New Headway Intermediate (Järvenpää) - sixth meeting

Today we discussed what is the best way to learn languages and listened to three language teachers discussing it, too. It seems that listening and speaking are the most important things in language learning and of course the vocabulary. When it comes to grammar, stick to the basics. Homework: exercise 5 on page 48.

New Headway Intermediate (perus) - fifth meeting

Today we worked with different adjectives like ones describing people. We also discussed how ages correspond to different stages in life. Homework: do the handouts on adjectives.

1. Olen niin innoissani. Luin juuri Daily Mailista, että kolmas Bridget Jones -kirja  julkaistaan myöhemmin tänä vuonna.

New Headway Intermediate (perus) - fourth meeting

We discussed what matters most to people (and me) and listened to a few people telling about their closest relatives. We also did some exercises on prefixes. Do exercise 3 on page 52.

New Headway Intermediate (perus) - third meeting

One of our topics today was predicting the future. We also revised future tenses and listened to Neil Young. Homework: do the handout about future tenses. If you don't have the handout, please email me.

New Headway Intermediate - second meeting

One of our topics today was space and we learnt something about space travel. We also did some preposition exercises. Homework: do the preposition handout and read the text "Life in 2060" on page 42 and 43 and do exercises 3,4 and 5.

New Headway Intermediate (perus) - first meeting

Today was our first meeting in 2013. We discussed our highlights in 2012 and our plans for 2013. One of our topics was our changing world and we discussed what will happen to our planet. We also did some preposition exercises.  Homework: Do the preposition handout. If you don't have the handout, please email me.

New Headway Intermediate (perus) - twelfth meeting

We discussed Christmas and listened to some Christmas music. We also did some tricky preposition exercises.  Homework: do exercise 5 on page 36.

The course will continue on the 8th of January 2013. Have a nice Xmas holiday!

We discussed rules and laws and compared some laws in Britain with laws in Finland. We also read some proverbs and listened to Elvis. Homework: do exercise 4 on page 32.

New Headway Intermediate - tenth meeting

One of our topics was rules for life  and we listed some very good ideas/rules for a happy life. We also did some exercises on homophones and modal verbs. Homework: do exercise 3 on page 29 and exercise 1 on page 31.

New Headway Intermediate (perus) - ninth meeting

We continued with our topic about love. We discussed the factors for a successful relationship. We also looked at homophones (words that sound the same). Do exercise 3 on page 25 and the handout about love and relationships.

New Headway Intermediate (perus) - eighth meeting

Our theme today was falling in love. We listened to Elvis and discussed love. Homework: do exercise 4 on page 24 and read about Romeo and Juliet on page 26-27 and do exercises 3 and 4.

New Headway Intermediate - seventh meeting

Today we discussed freetime activities and revised past simple (imperfekti), among other things.  Homework: read about Vincent Van Gogh on page 23 and do the handout with question about him and grammar exercises on the other side. There is no class next week because of the autumn break.

We continued with our topic about working life.  We learnt "who earns how much". We also listened to Prince Charles' speech at the Diamond Jubilee. Homework: Read about Prince Charles on page 18-19 and do exercise 4.

New Headway Intermediate (perus) - fifth meeting

We continued our theme about jobs and we practised passive voice. Do the passive exercise in your old handout (preesensmoniste) and exercise 8 on page 17.

New Headway Intermediate (perus) - fourth meeting

We started a new topic today: the working life (unit 2). We talked about different jobs and job requirements and listened to some music relating to working life. We had a quick look at present simple and present continuous, too. Homework: do the grammar handout (yleis/kestopreesens-moniste) and read the text about Dave Telford on page 15 and do exercise 1.
