New Headway Intermediate (jatko) - twelfth meeting

Today was our last meeting before Christmas and we discussed mainly Xmas issues.

This course will continue under the name "Activate your English" on the 7th of January 2013. We will have a new study book called New Inside Out - Upper intermediate Student's Book by Sue Kay and Vaughan Jones (publisher: MacMillan). Homework: Do the handout about prepositions.

New Headway Intermediate (jatko) - eleventh meeting

Our main topic today was the press. We listened to an interview about a celebrity who told about his relationship with the press. We also discussed heroes and heroines a little. Homework: exercise 3 on page 89 and exercise 2 on page 101.

New Headway Intermediate (jatko) - tenth meeting

We discussed some interesting statements whether they were fact or fiction and some of facts surprised us a little bit. We also started a new topic about newspapers. Homework: do exercise 3 on page 87 and the handout about newspapers.

New Headway Intermediate (jatko) - ninth meeting

One of our topics today was modern gadgets and we listened to an interview about technology addiction and  possible health issues. Homework: do exercise 7, 8 and 9 on page 80 and exercise 1 on page 86.

New Headway Intermediate (jatko) - eighth meeting

One of our topics today was the US presidential election. We also revised articles. Homework do exercise 3 on page 79.

New Headway Intermediate (jatko) - seventh meeting

We discussed the Internet and what people do on the net. We also read an article about how the Queen's English is colonising America and listened to Prince Charles' speech at the Diamond Jubilee. Homework: do exercise Spoken English (yellow box) on page 81.  No class next week, because of the autumn break.

New Headway Intermediate (jatko) - sixth meeting

We continued with our old topic about social conscience and did some grammar exercises about conditional clauses. We also started a new topic: money, and we'll carry on with it next time. Homework: do the handout about money. If you need the handout, pls email me.

We discussed bullying (unit 9) and read about Billy who was bullied at school. We also had a little discussion on social conscience. We revised conditional clauses. Do the handout about conditional clauses (konditionaalimoniste). If you need the handout, please email me.

New Headway Intermediate (jatko) - fourth meeting

Today we talked about body idioms, among other things. We also looked at the rules for infinitive and ing-form. Homework: do the handout about infinitive and ing-form (the same old handout with tense-exercises on the other side). We also started our new theme about bullying. New Headway Intermediate (jatko) - third meeting

We discussed the dangerous journeys in history. Our new topic was body parts. Homework: do exercise 3, 4 and 5 on page 68. Also finish off the handout (aikamuodot).

One of our topics today was fears & phobias. We also revised tenses. Homework: do the handout (aikamuotomoniste) and read about Hannibal or Mao Zedong on page 66 and 67 and do exercises 3, 4 and 5.

New Headway Intermediate (jatkokurssi) - First meeting

Introduction to the course. We got to know a little bit about each other and discussed different ways to learn and improve English (like listening to music).  For homework do the grammar handout (aikamuotojen kertausmoniste). Next time we'll really get started with new topics.
