Practice makes perfect (Järvenpää) - eleventh meeting

Today was our last meeting. We talked about houses and hobbies among other things. It has been nice teaching and learning with you. Thank you all.

A new intermediate course (keskitason peruskurssi) starts in September.

Today we talked about houses. We also did some grammar like passive voice. Homework: read the text "for sale or for rent" on page 136-137. Do exercise 10 and 11 on page 134.

Today we learned about the history of mobile phones and discussed whether smart phones are better than ordinary mobile phones.

Homework: do the irregular verb handout.

One of our topics today was phones. We talked about different phones and listened to music relating to them. Homework: Read the text on page 122.

This was our first meeting after winter break. We did some listening exercises, revised some grammar and listened to music. Homework: do exercise 6 and 7 on page 115.

Practice makes perfect (Järvenpää) - sixth meeting

One of our topics today was the history of tea and we also discussed what kind of tea drinkers we are. Homework: do the handout (ehtolauseet).

We discussed different jobs and what they are like. We also had a look at some proverbs. Homework: do exercise 8 on page 103 and the handout on prepositions.

Today we discussed the skills and experiences needed in today's working life and did some tense exercises. Homework: read the text about Princess Diana (handout) and do exercise 13 on page 107.

Today we discussed the royal family and read about the Queen mother (chapter 6). We also did some tense exercises. Homework: do the handout about relatives and the other handout about tenses (imperfekti/perfekti).

We read the text about shopping for clothes (5 Around the shops) and  discussed clothes. We also did a pronunciation exercise on different s-sounds. Homework: Read the text about the Queen mother on page 92-93 and answer the questions (handout) and do the grammar handout. If you don't have the handouts, please email me.

Today was our first meeting in 2013. We discussed our highlights in 2012 and our plans for 2013. One of our students gave an interesting presentation about his trip to Cap Verde. Thank you. Homework: do exercises 7 and 8 on page 86.

Our main topic today was Christmas. We also did some grammar exercises (perfekti). Homework: do the handout (perfekti).

One of our topics today was giving directions. We also did some grammar exercises on adjectives and listened to music. Homework: do the handout about adjectives and the old handout about prepositions.

Our topic today was hotel reservations. We read chapter 4 A room for one, please and did a listening exercise about hotel reservation. Homework: exercise 5 on page 52 and the first part of the prepositions handout.

We started our new topic travelling with some music and discussion. Homework: do exercise 4 on page 52.

Practice makes perfect - eighth meeting

One of our topics today was medical problems. We also revised question words and did some grammar exercises. Homework: Read about William Shakespeare on page 49 and answer the questions (handout) and do the question words handout.

Today we discussed films and listened to "Tragedy and romance" (p. 46-47).  We also heard an interesting travel presentation given by one of our students. Thank you! Our new topic today was shopping. We also did grammar exercises about the past simple (imperfekti) and will carry on with it next time. Homework: do exercise b on page 35 and exercise 10 on page 39.

We talked about different food, for example British breakfast and Sunday roast. We revised articles (a, an, the). Homework: do the handout about articles (artikkelimoniste). If you need the handout, please email me.
