Improve your English - eleventh meeting

Today we discussed the Internet and learnt some facts like that 86% of all the web pages on the Net are in English! Homework: do the handout about tenses.

Improve your English - tenth meeting

Today we learnt about JK Rowling and talked about talkativeness. Homework: do the handout on perfekti and exercise 2 on page 56.

Translate the sentences into English:

Improve your English - ninth meeting

Today we discussed what kind of tasks we like and dislike in an intermediate course. Thank you for your comments :). We also looked at adjectives with ed- and ing - endings. Homework: read the text about David Beckham.

Improve your English (Kerava) - eighth meeting

Today we discussed loves and hates and listened to some people telling about their loves. Homework: what are your likes and dislikes in an intermediate course. We will discuss that in the class.

Improve your English (Kerava) - seventh meeting

Today we enjoyed Nina's presentation on her trip to Florida. Thank you very much for telling us about your trip :). We also discussed passions a little bit and will carry on with them next week. Homework: read the text about Agatha Christie (handout) and write a summary (6-10 sentences).

Improve your English (Kerava) - sixth meeting

One of our topics today was literature and we discussed what kind of books we prefer and we also listened to Kate Bush's song "Wuthering Heights" which is based on Emily Brönte's novel "Wuthering Heights". Homework: do the exercise on adjectives (ed- or ing-endings).

1. Lääkärit, ravintotieteilijät ja elämäntapavalmentajat kertovat meille koko ajan mitä meidän pitäisi tai ei pitäisi syödä. Mutta ongelma on, että he eivät ole samaa mieltä.

Improve your English - fifth meeting

One of our topics today was age. We found it difficult to define for example when a person is middle aged or elderly. We also did some adjective exercises and listened to Abba. Homework: do the handout on adjectives.

Improve your English - fourth meeting

Today we discussed what matters most to people at different ages. We also did some prefix and suffix -exercises and listened to Eric Clapton. By the way, the last missing word was "peace". Homework: do the handout about prepsositions.

NOTE: No class next week (14 February) nor on 21 February (winter break). We will meet again on 28 February! Have a nice winter break!

Today we discussed what kind of changes we could make to get the feel-good factor for us and the planet. We also did some prefix and suffix exercises and listened to Neil Young.

One of our topics today was the weather around the world. We also discussed some predictions for the future and listened to music. Special thanks for Marita for doing the music task for us. Homework: read the text "Life in 2060" on page 42 and 43 and do exercises 3,4 and 5.

Improve your English - first meeting

We started our first meeting by discussing our highlights in 2012 and our plans for 2013. We also talked about the global warming and revised future tenses. Special thanks for Nina for doing a music task for us. Homework: do the future tense handout. If you need the handout, please email me.

Improve your English (Kerava) - twelfth meeting

Today was our last meeting before Christmas and therefore we discussed Christmas and listened to some Christmas music. We also did some tricky preposition exercises.  Homework: do exercise 5 on page 36.

We discussed rules and laws and compared some laws in Britain with laws in Finland. We also read some proverbs and listened to Elvis. Homework: do exercises 3 and 4 on page 32.

Improve your English (Kerava) - tenth meeting

One of our topics was rules for life  and we listed some very good ideas/rules for a happy life. We also did some exercises on homophones and modal verbs. Homework: do exercise 3 on page 29 and exercise 1 on page 31.

Improve your English - ninth meeting

We continued with our topic about love. We discussed the factors for a successful relationship. We also looked at homophones (words that sound the same). Do exercise 3 and 4 on page 25 and the handout about love and relationships.

Improve your English - eighth meeting

Our theme today was falling in love. We listened to Elvis and discussed love. Homework: do exercise 4 on page 24 and read about Romeo and Juliet on page 26-27 and do exercises 3 and 4.

Improve your English - seventh meeting

Today we discussed Prince Charles and freetime activities and revised past simple (imperfekti), among other things.  Homework: read about Vincent Van Gogh on page 23 and do the handout with questions about him and grammar exercises on the other side. There is no class next week because of the autumn break.
