Today was our last meeting. Thank you all for participating in this course. It has been nice teaching and learning with you.

Practice makes perfect (Kerava) - eleventh meeting

Today we talked about different houses and furniture. We also discussed our hobbies. Homework: exercise 9 on page 145 and exercise 4 on page 155.

Sentences to translate:
1. Kesällä juoksen paljon, mutta talvella hiihdän ja käyn sauvakävelemässä.
2. Kokeilin laitesukellusta Thaimaassa viime talvena. Se oli mahtavaa.

Today we started our new topic about houses. Homework: Read the text 9 on page 136-137 and answer the questions in the handout or do exercise 1 on page 139.

Translate the sentences into English:

1. Asun uudessa rivitalossa lähiössä, mutta viisi vuotta sitten asuin kerrostalohuoneistossa kaupungin keskustassa. 
2. Ystäväni asuu vanhassa omakotitalossa maaseudulla. Minäkin haluaisin asua maaseudulla, koska siellä on niin rauhallista.

Today we continued with our topic about phones with different tasks. We also revised the passive voice (passiivi). Homework: do exercise 10 and 11 on page 134. Do also the handout about the telephone dialogue.

Today we talked about mobile phones and listened to Elvis. Homework: read the text "On the mobile" on page 122 and 123.

Sentences to translate:

1. Jos minulla olisi enemmän rahaa, matkustaisin ympäri maailmaa.
2. Tänä kesänä matkustan Italiaan. Olen varannut ihanan huvilan Toscanasta.
3. Katsoin eräänä päivänä "Eat Pray Love" elokuvan. Se kertoo naisesta, joka matkustaa Italiassa, Intiassa ja Indonesiassa.
4. Matkan lopulla hän löytää sisäisen rauhan ja todellisen rakkauden. Mikä elokuva!

One of our topics today was tea and we learned about the history of tea. We also did some grammar exercises (futuuri). Homework: exercise 11 on page 117 and exercise 12 on page 118.

Today among other things we listened to a mystery man and then retold the story. We also did some grammar exercises on verbs. Homework: do exercise 6 and 7 on page 115.

Today we did this and that. Among other things we read about Clarissa and revised conditional clauses (ehtolauseet). Homework: do exercise 8 and 9 on page 103.

Sentences to translate:

2. Ostaisitko uuden auton, jos sinulla oli enemmän rahaa?
3. Jos minulla olisi aikaa, menisin kuntosalille useammin.

Today we talked about jobs. We also looked at some proverbs and listened to Eric Clapton. Homework: do the handouts about job related words and prepositions.

NOTE: No class next Thursday (14 February) nor on 21 February (winter break). We will meet again on 28 February. Have a nice winter break!

One of our topics today was the Queen Mother. We also did exercises on verb tenses and different sounds. Homework: do exercise 5 on page 98 and exercise 13 on page 107.

One of your topics today was family and we talked about the royal family and watched a short video clip on the Royal wedding in 2011. We also did a pronunciation exercise on different s-sounds. Homework: Read the text about the Queen mother on page 92-93 and answer the questions (handout) and do the grammar handout. If you don't have the handouts, please email me.

Today was our first meeting in 2013. We discussed our highlights in 2012 and our plans for 2013. We also talked about clothes and read a text about shopping for clothes (5 Shop till you drop). Homework: do exercises 7 and 8 on page 86. Read the verbs be-bite in the verb list.

Today was our last meeting before Christmas. Therefore our main topic was Christmas. We also did some grammar exercises (perfekti). Homework: do the handout (perfekti).

Today's topic was hotel reservations. We read chapter 4 A room for one, please and did a listening exercise about hotel reservation. Homework: do exercise 5 on page 52 and the second  part of the prepositions handout.
